DESCRIPTION:
A very rare rosewood and leather armchair by Ejner Larsen & Axel Bender Madsen for Ludwig Pontoppidan. Larsen and Madsen's designs are very sought after because of their unique and defining style. They worked with some of the premier Danish cabinetmakers such as Willy Beck, Fritz Hansen and in this case, Ludwig Pontoppidan. This model was first presented at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibtion in 1956 and was produced in very low numbers and therefore should be considered a collector's piece. The rosewood matched with the black leather makes for an elegant and sophisticated example. Their unique one piece backrest/arm design, which was used on their famous Metropolitan chair, is executed in a slightly modified form in this design. Also of note are the leather wrapped legs which are also a hallmark design element of this tandem. This piece would make a wonderful addition to any Larsen & Madsen collector or would fit any modern setting.
