DESCRIPTION:
An unbelievably rare set of red #1718 glasses by Saara Hopea matched with a #1610 Kartio pitcher by Kaj Franck for Nuutajärvi Notsjö glass works. What makes this set special is to not only find a matching set of these drinking glasses but in rare rubine red and in the largest size! This iconic design is part of several museum's permanent collections worldwide including the Danish Museum of Modern Art and New York's MOMA. Hopea was one of several Finnish designers to dramatically change the way glassware was designed and used. This design is considered to be one of the first stacking designs, winning a silver medal at the prestigious Milan Trienale in 1954. Along with Kaj Franck, they wanted to create "everyday objects of more beauty" for all consumers. The pitcher is part of Franck's iconic Kartio range that included the popular dirinking glasses that are still in production today. The set is in excellent condition with virtually no wear. An outstanding offering!
